I just spent the last 14 minutes watching the Chanel SP 13 runway show, and the details, design, textures, location, show, etc are just incredible. If you don’t have time to watch the entire show, check out some of my favorite looks.

Last year I wrote a post here about Aaryn Nutter, and her amazing print studio Aaryn West -Surface Design. I had the opportunity to look thru her collection of prints (which by the way are so inspiring & impressive), and found a few prints that I thought would be great for Spring 13 footwear designs.
I thought it would be fun to design a shoe for Aaryn that represented her style. A while ago, Aaryn and I went out to lunch, and she expressed the need for ankle booties. At that point, I knew it’s a must to design Aaryn some printed booties. My goal was to not give Aaryn any old bootie, but a design with interesting lines. I saw an editorial with some cute shorts, and loved the detail around the waistline. A hidden zip on the lateral side, and some hooks inside the top line strap would be a nice addition to the design. I also like the print bold, and not too small. Check it out!
Oh yeah, and since I was sketching shoes, I thought why not do one for myself! I love feminine with hard details right now, and wanted something I could wear everyday. I kept the print on the wedge, and liked the upper in dark navy rich leather with a clear TPU strip on the side. Of course, I wanted a rubber outsole so I could be comfortable, run around town, or travel in style. What do you think? Which one would you wear?
I have been spending the last few weeks researching for women’s & kids projects, and am overwhelmed with ideas. I thought I would share some kids ideas with you that I really love. People ask me, “why do you post your ideas on your blog?”, and make comments that I am feeding ideas easily. I have a few answers…one, is that I love to share and we all have ways of interpreting ideas differently. Two, I have a lot more ideas! Scroll down and you will view some sketches of the ideas shown here!! Enjoy and cheers!
In between projects, I do things I normally don’t have time to do on a daily basis. These tasks include marketing, keeping in touch with clients, website updates, and staying creative with the blog. I am updating the website this week, and have been working on the blog design FOREVER with my programmer. I don’t even want to mention to you it will be done soon cause I have been saying it for too long. So you will just have to check back time to time. Here is a sneak peek of what lies ahead at www.naliniarora.com. Cheers!
As a designer, I am always shopping, researching, watching trends evolve/disappear, and keeping on top of what other brands are doing. Over the last few seasons, I have been specifically observing several brands because I have noticed a change in design sensibility, design strengthening, growth into a new category, such as shoes, as well as a small companies getting more brand recognition. Here are a few brands, you might want to keep on the look out! (Of course there are many others but here are a few for your perusal!) Each brands shoe assortment offers some great inspiration with great design patterns, material combinations, and overall lovely designs that people want to buy! I love seeing how different brands businesses unfold over the years!
Recently, a friend shared with me her daughter designed a shoe for a class project. I was so curious to see what an eight year old designed, I asked her to email me a picture.
I received this cute little boot with googly eyes. I had to share with you this fantastic drawing from a very creative and imaginative eight year old.
I also did an interview with Remy. Read what Remy had to say about her inspiration!
1. What grade are you in? I am in second.
2. Was this a school project and if so what was this for? The 100th day of school. We had to make a monster with 100 googlie eyes.
3. What was your inspiration for a shoe monster? Ms. Christy’s monster that had a foot that looked like a shoe. That’s how I got inspired.
4. What’s your favorite shoe? Can you describe it? My favorite shoe that I own is my new sneakers. They are grey, green, and turquoise.
5. What do you want to be when u grow up (if you know) An artist.
6. Would you wear this shoe? Yes.
I was very inspired by Remy’s design that I created my own version of the googly eye boot. Remy mentioned she loved her sneakers and so I thought it would be great to incorporate the googly eyes onto a sneaker.
Additionally, I am inspired by all things girly and loved the idea of using one of Remy’s shoe colors in her new shoe which is grey, and mixing it with different pinks and black. Parents love easy accessibility and so I made this high top sneaker with a double velcro but also added an elastic across the vamp. The bow is just decorative, but I liked the idea of adding it to contrast the spooky googly eyes!
Hope your as inspired by this incredible eight year old…Thanks Remy! Please continue on your creative path!
I had to share with you these super cool, luxe sweaters by Bella Freud. I don’t particularly like posting about shoe products as I find them, at times, cheesy, but I found these to be quite tasteful and edgy. These are also a part of a collaboration with Christian Louboutin. You can check out the rest of the collection here. I also saw a Bella Freud sweater, a non-shoe design, on one of my favorite cool chicks Alexa Chung, here.. Hope these inspire you on this beautiful Monday morning! Have a great week!
I am going bananas over Isabel Marant’s Fall 2012 collection. Check out her version of western chic. You can also take a peek at her entire collection here. It’s absolutely brilliant how Marant takes western details and applies them to everyday wear. Some details include satin blouses with pearl buttons, flower embroidered tops, and lace, all which are translated into edgy, fresh silhouettes. She captures the perfect mix of feminine and masculine. Isabel Marant is truly an inspiring designer. Have you seen her gorgeous Spring sweater here. I can’t stand it! What do you think of her Fall 12′ collection?

I wanted to share with you this beautiful magazine called The Travel Almanac. This magazine covers travel topics, photography, fashion, music, film, etc in a very creative, informative, and rich way that I cannot even begin to explain. The pages are beautiful, photography is artistic & playful, the reading is fun and informative, and the topics are so varied that it gives you that feeling of…what’s next?
You will have to check it out on your own, and tell me what you think? Or if you have a copy, share your thoughts. You can find the Travel Almanac here.
Cheers!
Found this amazing art work by Kees Goudzwaard on Design for Mankind. Love the masking tape mixed with oil paint…. Its fantastic how you can take something so basic, like tape, and create works of art. I have been working on some print graphics lately and this is great inspiration. I love being inspired by small little details such as this…enjoy!
