A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about Ann Sui, check here, as I was inspired by some of her fashion collections over the past decade. I found another photograph in her book, and fell in love with this dress from one of her past collections.
I envisioned seeing the same tear and knots for a shoe so I sketched out many ideas from a closed toe to a flat sandal to a more subdued block heel. Since the inspiration is from Anna Sui, I thought I would give it a little more edge and work in a flared out wedge. I’m feeling so inspired by wedge shoes right now! Here is my sketch…
I guess I am feeling a lot of blue this week as obvious by my previous post relating to blue denim materials. I loved the idea of this design in dashing cobalt blue suede that is unlined ( in some parts only of course). I thought having it unlined will allow the knots to drape nicely on the foot. In addition, I didn’t want a Mary Jane silhouette or buckles. Since I really saw the studs on the sandal being the highlight of the upper, I opted for a functional knot around the ankle. This will allow you to tie it yourself. Other little details on the upper includes; leather sole with purple tipping around the edges, a purple leather sock which could have pinked out edges or something fun and sassy, and lastly gold studs. I really debated on how many studs. I do love Anna’s dress with studs all over. However, in the end, I loved the idea of less studs to keep it clean and modern. Sometimes less is more. What do you think?
