I am a designer based in Los Angeles. I design shoes. Yes, can you believe it? I am happy to say that I get to spend my days sketching shoes, shopping, looking at materials, magazines, etc. I design both women’s and kids’ shoes. I also have dabbled in designing accessories since my return from Spain. Ah Spain, yes, this has been a major part of my life as I moved there a few years ago and started a freelance career while residing in Barcelona. It was quite an adventure and I have a very fond love for this country. The architecture, the tapas, vino tinto, and the late afternoon breaks that give you the energy to continue socializing into the wee hours of the night. It was an inspirational time.
I returned to Los Angeles, and am back to the grind of LA life. However, I’ve come back with new passion for this city. Los Angeles is not just a city of beaches, Hollywood, or traffic jams but has an untapped cultural scene, a downtown that is breaking ground with new restaurants, art galleries, and a nightlife that is surprisingly fun, and did I mentioned we have the best weather? Yes, it’s good to be back.
The purpose of my blog is to write about what inspires me as a shoe designer, sketches I have worked on, shoe processes, travels, photos of shoes or fashion from the streets, and shoe designers that are amazing.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Nalini! First off I have to tell you that I love your blog. I came across it a few months ago and I’m a fan, I even went so far as too read you earlier post to present. Any who, I am an aspiring footwear designer. I have degree in footwear design and have been out of school since 2009. I had health issues right out of college so I couldn’t go out and work. Im doing a little bit better and now I’d like to get started on developing my portfolio because it is a little dated. Im kind of at loss; feeling like a fish right out of water. I’m not sure where to start, need a plan and structure. Do I need….technical sheets, computer sketches, trends and collections, process sketches? Is the more the better? What do you think employers want to see? Can you please help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
HI Nancy! Thanks for your comment! It’s glad to connect with other shoe designers
I think for now, since you have not worked for a company, you can provide sketches and illustrations. If you learned specs when you were in school then show what you know around it, otherwise, just show concepts and your ideation, including mood boards, inspiration, etc. I think more is always better but presentation is KEY! I don’t suggest just showing a book of drawings. I would think of a better way to put your ideas together. If you have more questions or need clarity, you can email me at lashoegirl@me.com. Thanks again!!!
Hello Rehan, Thanks for your comment. I am not sure how I can help you. I am not looking for an assistant at the moment. I am sure there are lots of companies in India. Have u considered moving to NYC?
