Monica Lhuillier | Project 1
Fall 2014
In 2013, and 2014, I collaborated with George Mang in designing a footwear collection for Monique Lhuillier.
Keeping in mind the elevated brand image, and quality, I was inspired to bring a bit of edginess to the ML ready to wear footwear line, and keeping in mind these shoes were most likely to be worn at a special event. I was also inspired to reference lace in unexpected silhouettes such as a brogue, delicate flats, and choked up sandalized booties.
These shoes were made in Italy. We used Italian lace, and the finest leather from Italian tanneries.
This capsule collection was sold at Shopbop, and Monique Lhuillier brick and mortar shops, and website.

Fall 2013
Some shoes don’t make it to market, and they seem to always be the ones you’re most excited about.
For this Fall 13 collection, I was inspired by studs, fringe, leather overlays, and quilting. I loved the idea of mixing Monique Lhuillier’s feminine dresses with a bit of a rock and roll feel.
At the end, we ended up detailing the shoes with mesh to tie into the collection. We also revised the leather fringe to leather overlays . It was fun to see this collection walk the ML Fall 13 runway.
