A shout out to my dad

A few months ago, online magazine ShoutoutLA reached out to me to talk about my consultancy. Most importantly it was a tribute to someone whom you feel gave you what it takes to be where you are today.

I straight away thought of my dad. First let me start out by saying, I did not ever think I would ever give a shout out to my father. In fact, most of my childhood and adult life was spent feeling like I was never accomplishing enough for him. My East Indian father was constantly pushing me, and at times not as complimentary as I would have liked for him to be. Giving accolades was not his strong suit. It bothered me.

However, when my father passed away, I realized what he did. He was giving me strength to handle anything life came my way. He taught me without risk there is no reward, and patience and determination bring gifts. I didn’t realize I was living with that mindset because for 15 years I’ve been consulting. Entrepreneurship has its ups and downs; I still don’t give up. I keep going. I try new things, improve my skills, and keep moving forward. I didn’t realize I was doing that with the tools he was giving me.

I no longer have my dad to ask advice in business or real estate. I miss having him as a sounding board, and telling him about my accomplishments, and mistakes. I’ve come to conclude that I’m now my own biggest cheerleader now, to trust myself, and continue to learn and grow to evolve in business. Thanks Dad!
